How to Measure Your Hat Size

So, you’re on the hunt for a new hat and wondering: how do I measure my hat size? And what do those numbers on the label actually mean? Don’t worry — it’s easier than you think.

Follow these simple steps to find your perfect fit:

Step 1: Measure Your Head

You’ll need a flexible measuring tape (or a piece of string and a ruler). Having a friend help makes it easier, but you can do it yourself too.

1. Wrap the tape or string around your head where the hat will sit — about 1/8 inch above your ears and across the middle of your forehead, roughly half an inch above your eyebrows.
2. Hold the tape snug but not tight — it should feel comfortable, not restrictive.
3. Mark the point where the tape meets and note the measurement in centimeters for best accuracy. (Centimeters allow for a more precise and consistent fit than inches.)
4. If using string, hold your spot with your finger, then lay it flat next to a ruler to measure.
5. If your measurement falls between sizes, always size up. You can add a bit of padding inside the sweatband for a more custom fit.
